Approach

A core principle of the work of CEGAA is one of participatory research, empowerment through the research process, and full ownership by our partners (civil society or government bodies) of the entire process, the outputs and outcomes, for use in their strategic plans and advocacy campaigns.

Thus, CEGAA seeks to enable the research and activism to occur within African countries, through processes owned and driven by interested and committed organisations and/or government structures, within each country. Importantly CEGAA aims to build the skills of health economists, government officials and civil society research agencies across Africa to undertake these activities. Thus contracts are undertaken with the full partnership of local representatives. To achieve this aim, CEGAA has established a network of Research Associates who operate with CEGAA on country projects.

CEGAA’s role includes providing skills transfer, capacity and confidence building, ensuring quality and accuracy of techniques of analysis, providing general technical support and guidance to country teams, and strengthening their advocacy initiatives.
